Amethyst

Named after the Greek word "amethystos" - sober. It is a stone that belongs to the most valuable and the most beautiful varieties of quartz, it was called a bishop's stone. Its color changes from light violet to dark violet, the color evokes an admixture of iron, it is transparent and translucent. It often occurs as a filling for empty agate rocks.

The name comes from the Dirillo River in Sicily. It is an opaque mineral from the quartz group characterized by the structure of many different colored layers of strands. Agates are usually multi-colored with shades of gray-blue, gray and white. There are also shades: blue-white, light pink, cream-white, red, etc. They can also be artificially colored with various organic dyes.

Comes from deep digging in underground of the settlement. Sometimes fossils contain parts of organisms, quartz, opal or chalcedony. Stone was already used in prehistory as a material for making tools, weapons or striking fire. In modern times, it is used for the production of paints, as a ceramic raw material or for jewellry. Large flint deposits occur in Poland, mainly in the Pogórze Iłżeckie.

Amber

latin: succinum, sometimes also electrum from Greek ἤλεκτρον

Amber - a fossil resin of coniferous trees, and in rare cases the resin of deciduous trees from the group of bean trees. About 60 varieties are known. The oldest of them come from Devonian works; the youngest, not mainly amber, are found in South America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The largest known deposits of amber, estimated at 90% of all global resources, are located in the Kaliningrad Oblast.

Obsidian stone

This is volcanic glaze. Since the Stone Age, obsidian has been used to make tools. It happens that the obsidian surface has the effect of a cat's eye. The stone occurs in areas with increased volcanic activity.

Mineraloid belongs to silicates. The name comes from gr. opallios. Opal is Australia's official gemstone. It also occurs in Peru and Ethiopia. Occurs in acinar, globular, kidney-like clusters, forms crusts, veins, and incrustations. It does not form crystals, it is solidified colloidal silica with a water content ranging from 3-10%. There are often inclusions of various minerals as well as gas and liquid inclusions. Opal is the most known natural photonic crystal. Some varieties show characteristic optical phenomena: iridescence, opalescence and the cat's eye effect.

Coral stone

Natural bamboo coral dyed red. Coral - the name comes from the Latin words "corallium" and the Greek "korallion". It is a sea polyp with a skeleton made of calcite. Corals grow in all clean and warm seas and oceans. Mainly there are red and pink varieties, white corals are rarer.

Moonstone

Orthoclase variety. The predominant phase is adular, and the dispersed phase is albite. Moonstones are represented by adular and orthoclase crystals (containing albite lamellar inclusions), with silver-pearly or silver-blue-pearly glow, reminiscent of moonlight. This type of opalescence is sometimes called adularization. Some moonstones are characterized by a subtle rainbow play of colors or shimmering. The best quality moonstones are mined in Sri Lanka and India.
